TIRANA, October 14
The premises of Gjirokastra Castle will change thanks to cooperation between the Regional Culture Directorate (DRKK) and the American Peace Corps. The latter approved an application submitted to the Small Projects Assistance Grant. The purpose of this grant is to facilitate the development and implementation of the stable basis of grants for small projects that help to build capacities in the communities where the Peace Corps volunteers serve.
The project that will be implemented by Nicole Martin, a Peace Corps member, DRKK, and the students of Thoma Papapano vocational high school aims at improving the area where the ottoman cannons are put.
The students will take care for the electrical and plumbing works, which will help to put spotlight on the cannons, increase green space and make the area more comfortable for the visitors. Moreover, local artisans will participate in the project and assist the students.
“We are happy to work with local artisans,” Martin said.
Gjirokastra is under UNESCO protection and at the same time, it is one of the main tourist attraction in Albania.
