TIRANA, July 6
The city of the flowers, Permet, in south-eastern Albania, is famous for its calm people and delicious spoon sweets, yet there are many other things that have turned the small city into a real tourist destination. Most of the Albanian and foreign visitors that normally go to Theth, Korca, Saranda or Vlora also decide to explore Permet.
Outstanding nature beauty and the thermal baths of River Vjosa are the main factors that attract a lot of people that search for a calm vacation far away from cities hustle and bustle. In most of the cases, the visitors come in guided groups, yet there are many others that know the area and come with their own vehicles.
Compared to one year ago the number of visitors increased by 50 percent. Most of them come from Germany, France, Austria, Spain and even Israel.
The tourists enjoy the hospitality and traditional cuisine of Permet and afterwards, they go for rafting or canoeing in Vjosa canyons. They also have the opportunity to swim in the thermal springs of Benja, which remain unspoilt by the hand of man. The springs are located in Petran commune, three kilometres away from the point where Vjosa meets Lengerica creek. The springs are famous for their therapeutic and curative powers.
