TIRANA, July 6
The liberalization of the energy market in Albania has officially started in Albania. Therefore, within 2017 over 5,000 businesses will purchase energy in the free electricity market, instead of being supplied by the Power Distribution Operator (OSHEE).
They will purchase energy from the private companies that have been licensed by the Energy Regulator Entity (ERE). Meanwhile, they will pay to OSHEE a fee of Lek 1.5 per one kilowatt-hour for the distribution service.
Representative from the Ministry of Energy Entela Cipa said that businesses will sign a contract with energy suppliers licensed by ERE.
“There are over 80 licensed suppliers. The client will pay the cost of transmission and distribution services and for the energy that is purchased from external or domestic sources,” Cipa said.
She also highlighted that the Albanian energy network is ready and guarantees access for independent power supply.
“The latest drops in energy prices are in favour to the Albanian clients,” Cipa added.
Based on official data, the businesses that will be part of the free market make a total of 15 percent of consumer purchase.
