The Municipality of Berat, south-central Albania, has opened on Tuesday the tourist information office in the downtown area. It is not common information desk. In addition to this purpose, it will work as a tourism promotion strategy in the city of a thousand windows.
The office is projected as a small museum that will be at the service of the numerous tourists that are expected to visit Berat during the summer season.
Visitors may find necessary information on tourist destinations, artifacts traditions, cultural heritage, facts on religious harmony, and much more with ‘Visit Berat’ application.
“We have created a booklet on local and traditional artefacts. Moreover, maps and tourist leaflets include all the information that visitors may need. The novelty of this office is ‘Visit Berat’ mobile app that can be downloaded at the app store,” expert on tourism promotion Mishela Muxhaj said.
According to the data provide by the tourism directorate on the Municipality of Berat, the number of tourists that visited the city during the first half of 2016 increased by 50 percent compared to 2015.
Berat is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due its rare architectural style typical of the Ottoman period. The whitewashed houses of Berat are divided by Osumi River in the districts of Mangalem, Gorica and Kalaja. Like cultural heritage, even recreational outdoor activities are strong and growing in the area. Rafting in Osum canyons and Hiking to the top of Tomori Mountain are major tourist attractions.
