Pogradec Opens Summer Tourists Season

Tourists travelling to Pogradec, southeastern Albania, will have an easier time finding their way to the most interesting points and sites in the area. This was confirmed by Mayor Eduart Kapri on Sunday during the activities held on the occasion of the official opening of the tourists summer season on Sunday.
A regional products fair was organised on Europa Boulevard. It was dedicated to everything that represents the city and its surrounding area. Visitors and tourists present at the event had the chance to taste traditional food as well as buy traditional artefacts and clothing.
Mayor Capri said that more tourists are expected this season in the city.
“The Municipality has started the preparation since months. At first, business tax rates were lowered in order to provide more support for all those involved in the tourism sector,” Kapri said.
Moreover, he added that a new infrastructural plan was implemented this year. It consisted on the reconstruction of the city alleys, the park and a new lighting system. The Mayor also said that fewer traffic problems are expected this summer because strict traffic rules will be enforced.
“Tourists will have more access to the public beach and recreational area. Soon we are going to have completed the regulation plan and the constitution of the municipality that focus on tourism development,” the Mayor added.
The new information office for the visitors and tourists was inaugurated while the activities continued with a visit to the Basilica of Lin, where a 1,500-old mosaic was unveiled for the visitors.
This year the Municipality of Pogradec will also promote cultural and eco-tourism in areas with historical values like Bishnica, Guri i Kamjes, the Monumental Tombs of Selca, The Monastery of Sain marena in Mokra and many other places.
Pogradec is one of the most preferred tourists destinations in Albania due to the pleasant climate, the lakeside villages of Lin and Drilon, many archaeological sites and exquisite cuisine, especially the koran fish.
