The Albanian Minister of Economic Development, Trade, Entrepreneurship and Tourism Milva Ekonomi declared in a press interview that the Albanian government has started investigations on the involvement of Albanian or non-Albanian citizens and companies in the Panama Papers worldwide scandal.
According to the Minister, the government is currently investigating several concessionary companies which operate in the country, adding that βthe office that is responsible for the surveillance of the concessionary companies is gathering information and we are investigating on all the companies whose name has appeared at the Panama Papers.β
The investigation on this scandal is also being supported by the State Police Department against the money laundry and the General Prosecution. Earlier to this, the Minister of Justice, Ylli Manjani had declared that any offshore company that wants to invest in Albania would have to make public the list of its stakeholders.
Panama Papers is one the biggest scandals on money laundry discovered in the past years. It cites that an Albanian citizen named Ismail Mulleti is the owner of the GFI offshore company.
