On April 4th, 1991, Albania and the United States of America reestablished their diplomatic relations after a freezing of relations for 50 years during the communism period. This important date was commemorated in Tirana by several activities organized by the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the US Embassy in Tirana.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati and the US Ambassador to Tirana, Donald Lu, spoke in front of a group of students about the reestablishment of Albania – USA relations back in 1991 and the performance of this relation in the years after.
The two officials emphasized the excellent relations between the two countries until now and said they will improve in the 25th coming years. The US Ambassador, Donald Lu, said to the present students that Albania needs young people who will serve and contribute to country’s political and justice spheres.

In the framework of the 25th anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Albania and the USA, the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama is expected to hold an official visit at the White House in Washington where he will attend meetings with the US President Barack Obama and the Vice President Joe Biden.
