Agricultural products are performing positively in terms of exports as farmers are finding new markets to export such products. Official figures announced by the Minister of Agriculture, Edmond Haxhinasto, at a meeting with farmers in Lushnje city say that agricultural exports produced Lushnje city doubled during January-February period in 2016 reaching the amount of 5739 tons, compared to the amount of agricultural products exported at the same period in 2015, 2711 tons.
At the meeting, the Minister highlighted that “countries which export agricultural products are strong competitors in markets and develop the agriculture sector in an organic way.”
Agriculture is a very important sector for Albania’s economy and is one of the sectors who employees about 38.7% of the workforce in the country. In the past years, the government and international organizations have launched several subsidiary schemes to support farmers increase the production of agricultural products.
