The Albanian Minister of Economy, Arben Ahmetaj, and the Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sebastian Kurz, discussed in an official meeting held in Tirana about the cooperation possibilities between Albania and Austria, mainly in the tourism sector. The two Ministers signed a cooperation agreement in the tourism sector which foresees an increase of commitment by the two countries for joint projects in this sector.
According to the agreement, the two countries will exchange more information and share their experiences on the field through statistics, the improvement and the update of the legal framework, the compilation of expertizes for finding possible ways of investment in the sector, ect. The agreement comes at a time the number of Austrian tourists to Albania is increasing continually.
Austrian foreign direct investments in Albania comprised about 8% of the total of FDIs in 2014 and currently 48 Austrian large businesses operate successfully in Albania. Trade exchanges between the two countries increased by 12.5% in annual terms in 2014, since exports increased by 56% and imports by 3.6% compared to the trade exchanges in 2013.
