Being one of the most important sectors of Albania’s economy, the government is paying attention to the agriculture sector by increasing the budgetary funds for 2016. In the draft budget for 2016, experts have increased the amount of investments for the agriculture sector by 24% compared to the budget of 2015.
The agriculture sector will be financed by the government at an amount of ALL 10.5 billion and according to the Ministry of Agriculture, public investments in this sector will be focused on rehabilitating and maintaining the irrigation and drainage systems.
The Ministry of Agriculture says in the draft budget is predicted that an amount of ALL 3.5 billion will be put in disposal for subsidies’ schemes for farmers, which will also get indirect support by public investments such as warehouses.
Public funds have also increased for projects that aim to reduce and avoid the flooding of agricultural areas and on this regard the government has allocated an amount of ALL 4.3 billion. This amount is 70% more than the amount dedicated to this problem during 2015, a year during which thousands of hectares of agricultural lands in southern Albania flooded on the beginning of the year.
