The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade, Entrepreneurship and Tourism declared on Wednesday that two companies have presented their offers for the management of Spitalla Free Economic Zone. The offers that were presented in a meeting of the Ministry’s Evaluation Commission are from a Chinese consortium at a value of $ 1.5 billion and from an Italian company which did not specified the investment amount.
Later in a press conference, the Minister of Economy Arben Ahmetaj declared that the winning company will be announced within 30 days from today. According to Ahmetaj, the development of such zones will generate 90 thousand new jobs and will be one of the most competitive free economic zones in the region.
The winning company will be responsible for the development and the maintenance of the free economic zone for a period of 9 years. Free economic zones are seen as a priority from the government, since they are expected to generate new jobs and improve the life of locals in areas where they are situated.
