As the technology advances, Albania is trying to follow the latest trends on this field, at least regarding to the latest communication developments. The Albanian Authority of Electronic and Postal Communications has lately published the tender for four 4G mobile frequencies. For the first three frequency bands, the floor price will be 1.5 million euros, while for the last band, the minimum price will be 110.000 Euros, a low price compared to the price of 3G tenders.
A new era in the mobile technology started for Albanians in 2013 with the licensing of three mobile companies with 3G technology. This presented a new mobile broadband perspective. The first winner of the 3G tender was Vodafone Albania bidding 31,4 million Euros and the second one by AMC after a 15,1 million Euros bid. Later, it was the third mobile company Eagle Mobile which offered 4.33 million Euros for the 3G license and the fourth and only mobile company which doesnβt provide 3G services for its costumers is Plus Communication, the first Albanian mobile telecommunication company.
The entering of 3G technology in Albania revolutionized the use of high speed internet and data access to every device that can accommodate a Vodafone, AMC or Eagle Mobile Sim card no matter if it is used on a mobile phone, PC, laptop, netbook etc.
The authorizations for 4G technology will be 15-year term, and can be renewed. The only condition to take part in the competition for this tender are the technical and financial capacities needed to offer the service. The deadline for submission of bids will be September 15th.
