TIRANA, March 12
New major projects are expected to boost tourism infrastructure in Southern Albania. Saranda city entrance road, Kardhiq-Delvina Highway, and the new plans for another airport in the southern region are three main projects expected to launch this year. Saranda is one of the most visited cities in Albania and a year-round destination. Therefore, infrastructure improvements are crucial. Minister of Infrastructure and Energy confirmed during a visit to Gjin Aleksi Mosque in Delvina that the entrance road to Saranda will be completed before the summer season starts.
On the other hand, the work on Kardhiq-Delvina road is expected to start within 2018. This road would reduce the drive distance from capital city Tirana to Saranda to Three hours.
The Minister also highlighted that the feasibility study for Saranda airport will be completed this spring.
“We will complete the feasibility study for Saranda Airport by the end of spring. I’m convinced that this airport will serve also to Corfu Island,” Gjiknuri said.
Further on, he mentioned possible investments in Saranda Seaport. According to Gjiknuri, this is a project that will require a few years to complete. On the other hand, it will help to include the city in the itinerary of major cruise liners.
