Greece is the biggest foreign investor in Albania for 2013. A recently published report by Bank of Albania shows the stock of Greek investments in Albania during 2013 reached the amount of 1.1 bl eur, almost 40% more than Greek investments in 2012. The analysis of Greek investments in country show that they are oriented towards important strategic enterprices as private banks or communication companies.
The increase of investments in private banks has come due to regulatory demands by Albanian government during 2013, causing Greek investments to be on top of foreign investments list in Albania. Greek investments in Albania comprise 37% of the total foreign investments, followed by Canada with 28% of foreign investments.
Investments by Canada increased significantly in the last years, particularly in the hydrocarbons sector. Austria and Italy are also important investors in Albania, Austria respectively at 13%, Netherlands at 12% and Turkey at 10%.
